Track Etiquette
Rules of the Track
- Leave extra running gear and water in the bleachers or off to the side. DO NOT leave belongings on the inside edge of the track.
- Warming up and cooling down should be done in the outside lanes.
- The inside lanes are for interval work and faster runners. “Fast” is relative to one’s speed. You might be “fast”, but if a person is coming up on you on the track then they are obviously “faster.”
- Group running on the track requires even more mindfulness since there are more of you occupying the lanes. The group is simply too big for people to individually decide in which lane they prefer to run. Staying in the outer lanes can prevent collision with you and the aforementioned faster runner.
- While running with a group DO NOT run more than two abreast.
- Be aware of up coming runners yelling ‘Track.” If you hear “Track,” move to the right…and move quickly.
- Upon finishing, do not just stop, be aware of runners coming from behind and make appropriate change of lanes.
- Stretching or standing should be done off the track.
